Latest news on Council's Heritage Planning Proposal
July 2024 update:
The Planning Proposal was notified on 5/7/2024, The notified proposal can be viewed on Planning Portal.
The Heritage Planning Proposal (PP-2023-158) is now finalised been finalised and gazetted through Cumberland Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2021 (Amendment No. 7).
The official gazettal of this LEP amendment is available via the NSW Legislation website.
April 2024 update:
The Heritage Planning Proposal (PP-2023-158) is currently being finalised based on Council’s Resolution on 6 December 2023. Minutes from the meeting in December can be accessed through the Council website.
December 2023 update:
The Heritage Planning Proposal (PP-2023-158) has completed the necessary Post Gateway Exhibition and has reported to Cumberland City Council's Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday, 6 December 2023.

September 2023 update:
Consultation on the draft Heritage Planning Proposal has closed, and submissions are now being reviewed. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback.
August 2023 consultation:
Council invites you to have your say on a Planning Proposal (PP-2023-158) to amend the Cumberland Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2021.
On 7 December 2022, Council resolved to proceed with the Cumberland Heritage Planning Proposal for submission to the Department of Planning and Environment. Council received Gateway Determination (approval to proceed) from the Department on 14 June 2023. The Planning Proposal includes:
- Amend the curtilage and listing of forty-seven (47) existing heritage items listed within Part 1 of Schedule 5 of the LEP;
- Add twenty-four (24) heritage items to Part 1 of Schedule 5 of the LEP; and
- Amendment to the Heritage Map in the Cumberland LEP 2021 to reflect the proposed changes in items 1 and 2.

The consultation period runs from Tuesday 1 August to Friday 22 Setepmber 2023. During this community consultation period, residents are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposal. Anyone who wishes to provide feedback on the proposal must do so in writing by 5pm Friday 22 Setepmber 2023.
