Phillips Park has two playgrounds. The north playground on Nicholas Street is due for removal. The south playground on Martin Street opened in August 2024, this playground will not be removed and will not be affected by the removal of the north playground.
Removal works will be undertaken once the project schedule and contractor availability have been confirmed. Safety fencing and signage will be installed as required during the works.
The playground has reached the end of its serviceable life and contains old equipment that is difficult to maintain. Following inspections, it was determined that the playground no longer meets standards for a safe and enjoyable community facility.
The cost of repairing and upgrading the old equipment is not a practical long-term solution. Council has instead invested in the new playground on the southern side of the park, which provides improved facilities for the community.
Once the playground equipment has been removed, the area will be turfed to create additional green open space for the community to enjoy. This will provide more room for informal recreation, relaxation, and general park use. The site is also identified in the Phillips Park Masterplan as the future location of an outdoor exercise station.
No. The playground will not be replaced. However, the Phillips Park Masterplan identifies this area as the future location of an outdoor exercise station, providing additional recreational opportunities for the community.
Council has recently constructed a brand-new playground on the southern side of the park. The new playground includes modern play equipment, inclusive play opportunities, picnic facilities, BBQs, seating, and open space for families to enjoy.
The new playground is located on the southern side of the park and remains easily accessible to park users.
