March 2023 consultation:

Council invites you to have your say on planning for the future of Lidcombe.

The Joseph Street Precinct Plan forms part of the Lidcombe Town Centre Public Domain Plan, which has been prepared by Cumberland City Council to guide the delivery of consistently high-quality public realm to promote the revitalisation of Lidcombe Town Centre.

Joseph St Precinct will be transformed to a vibrant ‘Eat Street’ supported by outdoor dining areas, upgraded footpaths and pedestrian crossing points, new street tree planting and greenery to provide colour and shade with opportunities for the integration of public art.

Vision for the Joseph Street Precinct

Joseph Street Precinct is an attractive and vibrant area centred on Joseph St located immediately south of the railway line. Other streets in this Precinct include Bridge Street, Taylor Street and Tooheys Lane. The vision for this Precict is to:

  • Establish Joseph St Precinct as a vibrant and desirable destination that supports residents and welcomes visitors to the local area.
  • Support a vibrant day and night-time street life that encourage people to linger and boost activity for businesses along the strip.
  • Retain the distinctive character along Joseph St. and enhance its cultural heritage.
  • Provide a high-quality public realm with attractive open spaces for promoting social interaction and a variety of activity.
  • Provide attractive and revitalised streetscapes that are clean and well maintained
  • Ensure that streetscape design is inclusive for all, and everyone can participate in the street life to support a sustainable community
  • Improve our environmental resilience as a community and protect ourselves against future shocks and stresses including urban heat.
