Cumberland Town Centres

Stay up to date on our Town Centres and Public Domain Plans

Merrylands Civic Square official opening at nightCumberland has a strong local identity which it derives from a network of centres that foster a range of small and medium businesses. Our centres include many of the District’s great places.

We also have a number of high quality, diverse and inclusive town centres. Our town centres have a range of services and facilities to support future growth. They are a focus for community life, retailing and entertainment, providing a highly valued ‘cultural’ atmosphere. With opportunities for markets, festivals and other community events, our centres are an important part of the social fabric of Cumberland and a meeting place for the community. Council recognises the importance of retaining and promoting the essential role and character of our centres, and especially the small businesses they support as the backbone of our local economy and culture.

You can find out more in our Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS).

Town Centres and Corridors

Following consideration by Council and the Local Planning Panel in 2021, a number of Planning Proposals were submitted to the NSW Department of Planning Infrastructure and Environment (DPIE) in mid to late 2021.  The progress of these Planning Proposals can be viewed in the Newfeed below. Currently there are two that are still being progressed:

  • Woodville Road Corridor

  • Granville Town Centre and surrounds

Public Domain Plans

We also have Public Domain Plans that have been prepared to guide the delivery of consistently high-quality public realm to promote the revitalisation of our Town Centres.

These documents set out a Town Centre wide palette of streetscape treatments, including material palettes for surface treatments, street furniture, landscaping and finishes. It also provides guidelines and relevant information to assist developers and Council in undertaking public domain works within our Town Centres. Each of the Town Centre Public Domain Plans goes on public exhibition for feedback before being finalised. All of these plans are availabe on the Council website once finalised.

We will keep you updated on the status of these projects via this page. If you want to be notified of future updates, make sure you use the pink 'Follow' button at the top of the page.
