Council wants you to stay informed about our Town Centres

South Street Granville

Following consideration by Council and the Local Planning Panel in 2021, the above Planning Proposals were submitted to the NSW Department of Planning Infrastructure and Environment (DPIE) in mid to late 2021.  In its assessment of these proposals the Department determined that further technical reports are needed in order to understand the impact of the proposals on their surrounding areas.

  • Woodville Road Corridor
  • Granville Town Centre and surrounds
  • Specific sites in Merrylands and Guildford
  • Specific sites in Auburn and Lidcombe

Accordingly Council staff are in the process of seeking the required additional information and reviewing the proposals.

Specific sites in Auburn and Lidcombe

Following consideration by Council and the Local Planning Panel in 2021, a Planning Proposal for targeted sites in Auburn and Lidcombe was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in late 2021. In its assessment of the proposal, the Department determined that further technical reports were needed in order to understand the impact the proposals would have on their surrounding areas. In response to the Department’s determination, Council has resolved the following:

Auburn

At the Council Meeting of 2 November 2022, Council resolved to not proceed with the Planning Proposal for the targeted sites in Auburn. Any landowner initiated Planning Proposals may be received for properties within the area, which would be assessed and reported to Council in accordance with statutory and policy requirements. Lidcombe

Following consideration of the requirements outlined by the Department, and acknowledging the recent planning work for Lidcombe Town Centre that was included through the gazettal of Cumberland LEP, the sites identified in Lidcombe will no longer be pursued. Any landowner initiated Planning Proposals may be received for properties within the area, which would be assessed and reported to Council in accordance with statutory and policy requirements. Specific sites in Merrylands and Guildford

Following consideration by Council and the Local Planning Panel in 2021, the planning proposal for targeted sites in Merrylands, Guildford and Victor Brazier Park were submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in mid to late 2021. In its assessment of these proposals the Department determined that further technical reports were needed in order to understand the impact of the proposals on their surrounding areas, except for Victor Brazier Park. Council staff are in the process of seeking the required additional information and reviewing the proposal for Merrylands.

The relevant stakeholders in Guildford will be contacted by Council to discuss alternate planning pathways.

Granville Town Centre and Surrounds

Following consideration by Council and the Local Planning Panel in 2021, the planning proposal for the Granville Town Centre and surrounds were submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in mid to late 2021. In its assessment of this proposal the Department determined that further technical reports were needed in order to understand the impact of the proposals on their surrounding areas.

Accordingly, Council staff are in the process of seeking the required additional information and reviewing the proposal.

Woodville Road Corridor

The Woodville Road Corridor Planning Proposal is currently being updated by Council staff in accordance with a new Local Environmental Plan Making Guideline adopted by the NSW Department of Planning Infrastructure and Environment in 2021. This work will require additional supporting technical information.
