Construction underway!

The All Abilities Playground is currently under construction and is due to be completed, contractor and weather dependent, early 2020!

Work is currently underway to prepare the site. Old equipment has been removed and preparation of the base has commenced. This requires the installation of subsoil drainage and the excavation and formation of pathways.

Help Council choose the play equipment at Merrylands all-abilities playground

Park users can vote on their preferred play equipment for Central Gardens in Merrylands when a pop-up engagement session is held at the park on Saturday 15 September from 10am to 12pm.

Park users will get the chance to see the latest design of the all abilities playground as well as vote for their favourite play equipment and say what they would like to see at the park.

The renewal of the park is part of the NSW Government Stronger Communities Fund and Council will upgrade the larger playground in Central Gardens to be an inclusive play space for all.

The park’s revised design was informed by an online survey, where participants highlighted shade as being a very important feature and playground bark mulch as a concern. Both have been considered in the new and improved park design.

Mayor Greg Cummings said it was exciting to allow the community to help co-design their park and was important to create a space that allowed children to do what they do best – play and use their imaginations.

“As our lifestyle becomes increasingly sedentary, it is important to encourage children to play and develop both physical and social skills,” Mayor Cummings said.

“We are proud that Central Gardens will become a place where all children can come together, learn from each other and create a positive community and a space for everyone to enjoy.

“I encourage everyone to get down to the park to have a look at the latest designs and help Council select the equipment they would like to see at the park.”

Central Gardens is one of Cumberland’s most popular parks and is located at the corner of the Cumberland Highway and Merrylands Road, Merrylands.

The park has two children’s playgrounds, animal enclosures, educational bush trails, ponds and water features, amphitheatre, tennis courts, open grass areas as well as barbecue and picnic areas and parking.
