July 2023 Update

Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a planning proposal to amend planning controls for 245-247 Great Western Highway, South Wentworthville (The Wattles). NRB Property Group Pty Ltd is the proponent and landowner for this proposal. The proposal is issued with a Gateway Determination.

Planning proposal for Great Western Highway

The proposal’s intended outcomes is to facilitate a 76 room 4 and 6 storey hotel or motel development with ancillary hotel facilities and basement parking, restore and conserve the existing heritage significant building (The Wattles) with landscaped gardens via adaptive reuse.

The proposal seeks to amend the existing planning controls (R2) under Cumberland LEP 2021 to:

  • Amend the building height from 9m to 27m (up to 6 storeys including lifts) for the proposed ‘hotel or motel accommodation’ on the western portion of the site and retain an existing 9m building height for the Wattles building
  • Amend the site’s existing Floor Space Ratio (FSR) to 1:1 FSR for the entire site
  • Introduce additional permitted uses for a ‘hotel or motel accommodation’ on the western part of the site and a ‘restaurant or café’ for the Wattles building located to the east.

Council values the opinions and suggestions of the community, and would appreciate your input on the proposal for 245 - 247 Great Western Highway.

During this community consultation period, residents are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposal. The planning proposal and supporting documentation are also available in hardcopy form at:

  • Merrylands Customer Service Centre, 16 Memorial Avenue, Merrylands.
  • Wentworthville Library.
  • Merrylands Library.

The consultation period runs from Thursday 13 July 2023 to Thursday 10 August 2023. During this community consultation period, residents are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposal. Anyone who wishes to provide feedback on the proposal must do so in writing by 11pm Thursday 10 August 2023.

Submissions concerning the above proposal are to be made by Thursday 10 August 2023 by quoting submission reference PP2022/0003.
