Have your say on the new Cumberland Local Environmental Plan

Consultation has concluded

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE OF CUMBERLAND

Cumberland Council is planning for the future of the Cumberland area, and we encourage you to have your say.

Early consultation on the new Cumberland Local Environmental Plan

Council is preparing a new Local Environmental Plan (LEP) for Cumberland, which provides the key planning controls for the area, including land use activities, zoning, building heights and density. We are seeking community feedback on the planning controls in the LEP, including opportunities that Council could consider in changing these controls.

All written submissions received by 30 August 2019 will be considered in the preparation of the new Cumberland LEP. A further opportunity for community feedback on the new Cumberland LEP will be provided in early 2020.

Draft Cumberland 2030: Our Local Strategic Planning Statement

Council has prepared the Draft Cumberland 2030: Our Local Strategic Planning Statement. This statement provides a land use vision and structure plan for Cumberland, and identifies the focus areas of Council in delivering this plan. We are seeking community feedback on the draft Statement by 30 August 2019.

How to have your say

The consultation period is now closed. The project was open for submissions from 1 July 2019 to 31 August 2019. There will be further opportunities to provide feedback as the project progresses.

FURTHER INFORMATION DRAFT LOCAL STRATEGIC PLANNING STATEMENT NEW CUMBERLAND LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN

Changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (the Act) in March 2018 introduced new requirements for councils to review and amend their Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) to provide a local response to state planning policy. Cumberland has been identified as a priority council, meaning we must complete our LEP review by mid-2020.

The Act also requires councils to undertake the review in a strategic manner, by developing a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) that sets out the community’s vision for land use in the local area and how change will be managed into the future.

Cumberland Council is currently operating under three separate LEPs, each with different planning controls (Auburn LEP 2010, Parramatta LEP 2011 and Holroyd LEP 2013). This means there are different approaches to planning across the Cumberland area, which provides inconsistent outcomes and is not practical in the longer term. Council is currently working to develop a single set of planning controls for Cumberland.

Council is seeking the views of the Cumberland community on the Draft Cumberland 2030: Our Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) and early feedback on the new LEP. There will be further public consultation in early 2020 on the draft LEP, including proposed zones and development controls.
