Policy overview

The Draft Councillor and Staff Interaction Policy aims to foster and maintain a positive working relationship between councillors, as the community’s elected representatives, and staff, who are employed to administer the operations of the Council. The Policy provides direction on interactions between councillors and staff to assist both parties in carrying out their day-to-day duties professionally, ethically, and respectfully.  The Draft Councillor and Staff Interaction Policy based on the Model OLG Policy, has been developed to achieve the following:

  • To establish a framework by which councillors can access the information they need to perform their civic functions, in a fair and consistent manner;

  • To promote positive and respectful interactions between councillors and staff; and

  •  To advise where concerns can be directed if there is a breakdown in the relationship between councillors and staff.

For more details, see the Draft Councillor and Staff Interaction Policy in the document library.
