Proposed changes to Long Day Care Centre fees

Consultation has concluded

Child and educator at a Cumberland long day care centre

Council is inviting community input into the proposed changes to Long Day Care Centre fees. A minor fee increase has been proposed to improve the financial sustainability of Council’s education and care services. Pending community feedback and Council’s approval, the new fees and charges will be effective from January 2020.

The proposed changes intend to ensure the fees remain affordable for local families, while also continue to be competitive against other local service providers. The proposed increase in fees Is within the average cost for Long Day Care in the Cumberland area. You can see the average cost of Long Day Care in your suburb by clicking here.

The proposed fee changes do not apply to Before and After School Care, Family Day Care or Occasional Care.

Current Long Day Care Centre Fees and Charges

  • $95 per day for services that operate from 7am to 6pm; and

  • $97 per day for services that operate from 6am to 6pm.

Proposed Long Day Care Centre Fees and Charges

  • $100 per day for services that operate from 7am to 6pm (meals included);

  • $95 per day for services that operate from 7am to 6pm (no meals included); and

  • $105 per day for services that operate from 6am to 6pm.

Centrelink administers the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and this amount is dependent on the circumstances of each family. Consideration is given to the income and the number of hours of recognised activities of parent/s or carer/s.

Most existing customers of Council’s education and care services receive some level of CCS and therefore will not receive the full impact of the proposed increases. This is subject to change depending on the hours of care accessed and individual circumstances.
